A brief history of restoration programs and coordinating groups in the Klamath Basin and how restoration fits in with the largest proposed dam removal project in the history of the United States.

Restoration efforts in the Upper Klamath Basin were initiated in the 20th century by landowners and agencies such as Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Army Corps of Engineers, U. S. Forest Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and others. Some examples of early restoration techniques were fencing used to protect sensitive riparian area, addition and removal of large wood in rivers, installation of levees to reduce flooding, stabilization of active head cuts in waterways, and road drainage systems to reduce erosion.
